"Mariner Star" & "Crown of Thorns"

The Geist home was built in 1888 by J. B. Edwards, a prominent
Abilene merchant, who wrote a detailed history of the cowboy
years in early Abilene. The home has been in the Geist family for 30 years.

The Brown Memorial Home was built in 1928, and has been maintained since
1929 by the Brown Memorial Foundation for the care of the elderly.
The Home is located on a 220 acre Park. The Park is maintained for public use.
C. L. Brown, the founder of the Home & Park, was also founder of
United Utilities, which became United Telephone, and now known as
Sprint Corporation.

This historic building has been a pet shop for 15 years, rebuilt in 2003.
"Kansas Trouble"

This location was Lena's Restaurant from 1927-1978, when she closed the business
and lived at the location from 1978 to approximately 1995. The Kuntz family then bought
the building and reopened as a restaurant.

This building was built as a black smith shop in 1934. It is built of terra cotta
blocks with a metal roof.
"Kansas Wheat Star"
Old Abilene Town, T. C. Henry Carriage Barn, 200 SE 5th

The barn was built in 1873 and used as a Carriage House.
The historic building is open during tourism season, located on the Old Abilene Town grounds.
T C Henry was the first mayor of Abilene, 1868-70.
T C Henry planted the first Turkey Red winter Wheat on a five acre parcel in secret and
unveiled it July 1, 1871. He was often referred to as the "Wheat King of Kansas."

"Kalidascope"

This building was built in 1888, originally a grocery & drugstore. Currently the
soft brick and sandstone building is a hardware and appliance store. The
RHV Hardware Store was established in the 1930's by R. H. Viola. He ran
a contest to name the store, offering $100 for the winner. The name selected:
RHV Hardware, standing for Real, Honest, Vision. RHV Do It Best continues
today with the same "good old fashioned service" as given by Vic Viola and
his sons.

colors, lavendars and purples.

The building was built in the 1930's, and was the Abilene Iron & Metal business; currently
the building is used for antique tractor storage.
"Kansas Troubles"
Dickinson County Historical Society - Prichard Barn

This barn was built by the Prichard Family, originally located approximately
5 miles south of Enterprise. The barn was donated to the Dickinson County
Historical Society, and moved to it's current location after 1986.

The wood and steel building, constructed in 1964, previously the automobile museum,
currently houses the Dickinson County Historical Society and Telephone Museum.
The Dickinson County Historical Society has been around since 1928, making it one
of the oldest in the state. The Dickinson County Historical Society has a 1901 Parker
Carousel. The museum contains history of the telephone as well as the history of
Dickinson County.

This Masonic Temple/Cypress Bridge building was built in 1910, originally
for dry goods store and Masonic Temple. The building has been a dry goods
store, Gambles, Montgomery Wards, appliance store, and now Cypress Bridge.

"Book Worms"

The Abilene Public Library has been on this location since 1908, when the
building was built with a $10,000 grant from Andrew Carnegie.
The Ladies Literary League started the library in 1905 and the group still
meets in the library to this day.
"Carpenter's Star"

The home was built by brick maker Nicholas Versteeg and family from Holland. It
is believed the brick works was on this property. When the home was built it was in the
center of a 160 acre farm.This home is registered by the
Historic Home Association of Abilene, and also the National Registry.
